Scarlett OHaras... thanks to my brother for taking this photo!

Scarlett O'Hara's... thanks to my brother for taking this photo!

I’ve never dined at this restaurant, but it sure looks like a fun place to have a drink and/or meal… especially since I’m a Gone with the Wind fan! It’s called Scarlett O’Haras Bar & Restaurant and it’s located in St. Augustine, Florida. The creative menu features items such as Mammy’s Homemade Chili, Carpetbagger Wings, Big Rhett Burger, and the Hungry Soldier (its a chicken dish). Looks like there’s even a cocktail drink titled ‘The Scarlett O’Hara.’ Hmmm, wonder what’s in that?! The restaurant features live entertainment in the evenings and boasts yummy oysters, ribs and other southern style food. Upstairs there is a ‘Ghost Bar’… a special bar that is supposedly haunted and is thus listed in the National Directory of Haunted Places. Anyone been to this place before? Looks fun!

Why do we, as fans of the film and book, hope that Scarlett O’Hara and Rhett Butler will one day get back together. Should they?

I’ve started reading a pre-publication copy of Molly Haskell’s book Frankly, My Dear: Gone with the Wind Revisited (to be published Feb. 24th 2009), and she asks this question in the first chapter of the book.  Why do we hope for a happy ending… why can’t we just agree with Mitchell’s unhappy ending?

    Thoughts?

VOTE FOR VIVIENA PR assistant from INSTYLE magazine (the UK edition) contacted me to let me know that Vivien Leigh is nominated for their stylish film costume poll.  From their website: “In Style and Sky Movies Drama present The Fabulous Film Costumes season, starting on Tuesday 1 January with the English Patient and finishing on Sunday 13 January with Marie Antoinette. In association with Subaru. For more top films, check out skymovies.com” Vote for Vivien now through the end of December! Click HERE to vote.

So many elements went into making Gone with the Wind a legendary film. Margaret Mitchell’s story of Rhett & Scarlett, the all star cast of Clark Gable, Olivia de Havilland, and Leslie Howard, the spot-on acting of the beautiful Vivien Leigh, and the stunning, over-the-top designs of Walter Plunkett. It’s difficult to narrow down my favorite gown Vivien wore in the film… maybe the silk green & white BBQ dress or the burgundy velvet dress Scarlett wore to Ashley’s birthday part. Read more about Mr. Plunkett and his designs HERE. So, what is your favorite gown?
